The 4 Treasures & 6 Jewels of Vedanta #199
Called Sadhanachatushtaya, the Four Treasures with their Six Jewels are one of Vedanta’s mostly highly cherished systems. They also bespeak of a system of practice that is characteristically of the mind, as well. The desire to practice spiritual disciplines takes place in the mind first, then works its way out to the other levels of ones being. To purify the mind first, then, if that is possible for the aspirant, is the wisest way to proceed. To use viveka to “separate the wheat from the chaff” makes for the safest and surest way to move forward towards the Goal of Enlightenment, or moksha. Along the way, the other three treasures with their six jewels naturally join together to aid the seeker in this noblest of human ventures.
Signs of Battle — Maintaining Spiritual Life in the World #111
The day of spiritual awakening is dawning. The soul is remembering its true nature and source of origin. The primordial Divine Energy has also been stripped of its hiding place in human consciousness. Importantly, Maya has been uncovered, its negative influences caught and held in abeyance for the time being. The world presses in, trying to cover the brilliance of the revelation of the Atman and Its Purveyor, The Divine Mother Shakti. She beckons the soul out of its complacency and encourages in to enter the fray. Signs of battle are all around — in the world, at the work place, in relationships, even at home. The soul must now be on vigil in order to protect the spiritual vision that has awakened it from lifetimes of slumber.
The Five Kinds & Twelve Types of Sacrifice #76
An intregal part of the sadhana of every living being in olden days in India, much of which has been lost or forgotten in this day and age, the principle and practice of Yagna, daily sacrifice, is sorely wanted and needed in today’s spiritual arenas. Record of its glory is to be found in the Bhagavad Gita, where Sri Krishna outlines the art of it via utilizing acknowledgement and practice of worshipping and serving the gods, the rishis, the
ancestors, human kind, and the subhuman species as well. A plethora of other noble and worthy selfless efforts are also to be found in this dharmic teaching, inspiring humanity to turn back to practices that will benefit rather than harm all sentient beings.
Cutting through False Superimposition #124
The Sanskrit word, viveka, is of utmost importance today, at least for the sincere spiritual aspirant who is serious about attaining freedom in this very life. Discernment of the spiritual variety is what turns the ordinary pathway of religious convention into a broad avenue of inner communion. Common devotion to God is transformed into an ecstatic relationship with the Divine if viveka is present in the human mind. And as this dharma chart shows, discrimination of this kind should be applied to all stages and levels of life, like action and inaction. Then only will the obscuring clouds of false superimposition, called vivarta, part and dissolve, leaving the even-minded seeker fully at rest in all modes of existence.
